Girl Shirt Guy & Friends
Sounds like a good Saturday morning cartoon, doesn't it? I'm referring to my Commute People. Everybody who travels to work via public transportation has them. That cast of characters you see regularly on your bus and/or train each morning with interesting behaviors and/or wardrobe characteristics. I've been doing this commute less than three weeks, and I've already got a few:
Girl Shirt Guy- Usually, this guy has on an extremely fitted t-shirt with a plunging v-neck. Oh, but today! Today he mixed it up and wore a woven tunic. With a plunging v-neck. And I'm pretty sure that today he also had on girl pants.
Darryl Jenks- In case your knowledge of supporting characters in 80's comedies fails you (mine did, I had to look it up) this is the name of Eriq LaSalle's character in Coming to America. This guy has relaxed, shoulder length, artificially glisteny hair, and an Eddie Murphy circa 1986 wardrobe, complete with medallion belt, pleated pants with shiny threads woven in, and gray leather jacket with big epaulets.
Extreme Mom Jeans- I mean, not only are they mom jeans, these have been mom jeans since 1991. Complete with elastic waistband in the back. Worn daily with a shirt tucked in as tightly as possible.
White Loafers make Swift Feet--seems to shop at the same place as Girl Shirt Guy, as he wears suits that seem to be men's suits, but are just not tailored in very masculine fashion. This guy doesn't ride my bus, but he often seems to be walking through the convention center and into my building at the same time is me, and boy, does he ever think his white loafers give him magical speed-walking abilities. Maybe they do...
These are my Commute People for now. I am sure I will identify many more in the coming weeks. Who are your Commute People?
